ANNOUNCING OUR 2021 PROGRAMS

It’s completely awful not being able to do live theatre right now. Before we go any further, we think it’s important to just take a breath and acknowledge that fact. We miss the thing that brings us joy and purpose, and we miss sharing it with you.

But while we waited for our lights to turn back on, the 4615 team asked each other a question: “How can we recapture the spirit of theatre in this strange time? How can we conjure the feeling of an irreplicable moment, the phenomenon when our heartbeats synchronize, or the stories that are shaped not just by the teller, but by the listener?”

We think we’ve found something that will offer you the spark of daring and innovation that defines our work, while also teaching us something new about the very thing we can’t have right now. And, in the classic 4615 spirit, we’ve also chosen something that terrifies us as much as it thrills.

4615 GO

This is the version of our company you can take with you anywhere. At 4615, our mission is to explore the echoes and resonances of storytelling throughout the ages. Theatre has, primarily, been that vehicle of exploration. But in a time period where theatre cannot be traditionally made, we became inspired by the impact theatre has had on all of the various ways we now consume stories, and wanted to see what would happen when we as theatre artists brought ourselves to these mediums.

Join us as we explore the spirit of theatricality in our new media: video games, telephone calls, tabletop games, interactive concerts and more. None of these forms are unaffected by the theatre, in fact, we’d even venture to say they are benefactors of the theatre's legacy. And when we return from this “study abroad”, we hope our live theatre will be all the richer for having taken the trip.

We’re setting out with the belief that theatre is everywhere. What exactly we’ll uncover is a mystery, and it’s one we need you to solve with us. We’re excited to take you along for the ride.

Ready, set, go.

I play myself, you play yourself, and together we'll talk about our environments, our feelings, and some poetry I just can't get out of my head. We'll also create a new poem together.”

It’s For You feels like someone handing you the landline when unexpected phone calls were still an exciting thing, or that third hour in your first overnight conversation with a new crush.

FEBRUARY 11 - MARCH 7, 2021

THURSDAYs - SUNDAYs at 8pm

Conjuring a smoky backroom concert in virtual form, Old Soul is a narrative concert of original songs, woven together by the harrowingly funny story of songwriter Jordan Friend’s “quarter-life crisis from Hell”.

Engaging directly with small group audiences over video call, Friend brings soaring melodies and sharp lyrics to life in a unique setting that shatters the barriers created by online performance.

A fusion of musical theatre, stand-up and a touch of mystery, the virtual presentation of Old Soul is like huddling around the piano for songs and stories on a dark winter night.

APRIL 2021. A PERFECT CITY. A PERFECT CRIME.

Before his big sister died, Juda had it all: an education, job prospects, and a gorgeous apartment in Aeolus City's hippest district. But in a matter of a year, everything was taken from him. Haunted by his sister's murder, and frustrated by the city's tepid response, he leaves altogether - trying to move on. But when an investigative journalist from an Indigenous tribe shows up on his door step, looking into his sister's role at her former employer, the Aeolus Investment Organization, new revelations emerge. What did his sister know? And what is the AIO planning for the city's future? From the shadowy underbelly of the city to the highest echelons of power, Juda uncovers a scandal so massive that nearly everyone may have had a part to play in.

Fusing a retro, “choose-own-adventure” interface with powerhouse storytelling by a team of theatre artists, Dark City is a bold new step for 4615 Theatre Company, and a gaming experience for new and seasoned players alike.

Adventure Theatre MTC, ArtsCentric, and 4615 Theatre Company invite playwrights and theatre makers to DMV QFEST 4.0. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the anniversary of this festival, than with the artists who inspire us and each other to keep creating.

In this festival of work, the theme is “Into the Unknown”. Your unique vision, aesthetic, and experience should serve as the foundation. While this does not require anyone to share personal experiences, we do ask that all playwrights create narratives that represent their voice and no one else’s story. Speak from your truth.
