Plays in repertory with KING JOHN

ABOUT

ONE FAMILY, TWO PLAYWRIGHTS...

This summer's Plantagenet repertory combines two plays that follow John of England, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their whole family over two decades of battle, both on the field and at the dinner table. A single cast performs both shows.

It’s Christmas time, the year is 1183, and King Henry II is facing a particularly daunting family gathering. His three sons each have their eyes fixed on the crown, and his legendary wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, is coming from prison to spend the holiday at home. When the young King of France arrives to negotiate a pivotal agreement, family secrets spill out like a deluge, and alliances are formed and broken every five minutes. Beneath all of the court intrigue is a witty and moving story of a family at war with each other. Except, when this family goes to war, so does the whole country....
